...will they work on my bike?

The units will work on any machine with a 12v supply and a conventional ignition coil for the tacho pick-up. If in doubt, please contact us for specific advice on your charging system and model  smiths@srmclassicbikes.com

....what is a hall-effect sensor?

A simple electronic sensor that generates a pulse so the receiving unit can interpret the revolutions of the wheel or drive unit, just like on a bicycle speedo/computer

....how do I set the units for rpm?

The tacho comes pre-set for twin cylinder machines with simple setup procedure to enable the unit to be set for singles, triples, fours and six cylinder machines

.....and mileage?

The speedo can be set manually by using the wheel circumference or more conveniently, it has a "drive-to-set" mode, follow the simple instructions, simply ride the bike over a measured mile and the unit calibrates itself.

I need the later black faced version?

The black faced units and KMH versions of both styles  will be available before the end of the year, please keep checking the website for details

We have been working with Smiths Instruments to bring  electronic replicas of the original Smiths mechanical speedos and tachos back to the classic market. The units are available in grey and black face versions along with KMH options for the speedos.

The tacho is wired into the switched side of the ignition coil circuit and has programmable options from single to six cylinders.

The Speedo uses a "dummy cable" style sensor (available from SRM) and has a very handy "Drive to set" function that makes the unit extremely easy to set up, simply driving the bike over a measured mile or kilometer, depending on the requirement.

The units will work on positive, as well as negative earth systems. During development we have found that some positive earth bikes produce a lot of electrical "noise" this caused some units to "reset" during operation. Smiths have put a great deal of effort into resolving this problem so we can be confident that the units will now work on all Positive earth systems.
