Rolling Road and Diagnostic Service
Motorcycle engines can only be accurately set up when they are running, at SRM we use the FUCHS BE251,
an industry standard motorcycle test bench. The FUCHS BE251 offers a comprehensive list of motorcycle test features including engine performance (inc bhp and torque), transmission testing, exhaust gas analysis, chassis alignment, ignition and electrical fault finding. The rolling road test bench features a precision made roller, which when driven by the motorcycle rear tyre, simulates the forces on the motorcycle as if it were being riden on the road (hills and pillion passengers can be simulated with the load controller).
The test bench does NOT put the motorcycle under any load that you would not find in road riding conditions.
The test bench features a sophisticated front wheel clamp, which holds the motorcycle in a secure position on the test bench and allows checking of the wheel alignment and suspension.
The Gas analyser measures the levels of hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and oxygen present in the exhaust. By monitoring the comparative levels of each of these gases the efficiency of the combustion can be evaluated. The gases are measured at different engine speeds, loads and throttle openings, the test bench
computer logs the results and presents them as a graph for analysis.
If you are looking to buy, sell or just test your own motorcycle (after a complete restoration before venturing
on to the road) the following tests can be performed with the test bench to get the best out of your bike
1. Power and torque graphs poduced
2.Acceleration and response tests
3.Clutch test (tested for slip)
4.Transmission loses calculated (shows worn chains etc)
5. Detection of ignition
6. Ascertain engine condition (low compression/mechanical problem)
Carburation tests
1. Four gas exhaust analysis at different engine speeds
2. Four gas exhaust analysis at graduated Throttle openings
(Engine speed at 3000rpm with load control)t SRM we use the FUCHS BE251,
an indus
Electrical Tests
1. Ignition timing check
2.Measurement of HT Voltage (coil condition)
3.Misfires (anywhere in rev range)
4.Charging system check
5. Wiring / connector condition
Chassis and cycle parts
1.Front and rear suspension performance
2. Check on steering head/ swinging arm bearings
3. Frame/ wheel alignment-also with lazer wheel jig
4.Dynamic wheel test
